Class 20 – D8175

Challenge six of seven is a Class 20 in interim livery of green with full yellow ends. Again I never saw this engine in this condition, but luckily saw it when blue in TOPS. This is another loco in light to medium weathered condition.

I tend to have relatively clean sides of Locos after weathering. The main reason is when picking up Loco with misted weathered sides it is easy to scratch or leave finger marks from oily hands. Some people use cloth gloves for this process, but I have not really gone that way.

Class 25 – D7668

Day five of my own challenge is D7668 as delivered and weathered to a light to medium standard. I never saw this loco in this condition, but did see it when it was TOPS numbered.

I have overshot my five in five challenge and I have weathered seven, so will turn it into a seven in seven challenge so please continue to give this site a look.

Class 37 – D6753

Day four of my challenge and one of my favourite Locos. It has different positions of the BR symbols than most other BR Blue 37’s of this era. When in this livery it was based at Stratford (30A later SF) and was a common performer on my Local GE lines.

D5593 – Class 31 (30)

Day three of my challenge and my final Class 31. This time it is a Green example with small yellow panel. After lots of research I picked this number as it was one of the final class 31’s in this condition before submitting to BR Blue. I have a photo of this loco in this condition at Kings Cross in 1969.

D6749 weathered

Day 2 of my self imposed challenge and here we have Class 37 D6749 in an interim livery of Green with full yellow warning panel. It came from the North East to Stratford (30A) in 1969 and became of my favourites.

Day 2 -17th Nov

Golden Ochre Class 31

The Golden Ochre Heljan Class 31 (30) D5579 is now weathered to a light to medium standard. I have noticed that on some photos when in this condition it had Stratford 30A Oval depot plates – I will try and source some and add them to the Loco. The Electric Blue Loco D5578 also had the depot plates.

I have set myself a little challenge – a loco a day for this week – below is Monday 16th.

Weathered Metals 47

After weathering a half a dozen Class 47’s in a low to medium format, I decided to move up a couple of notches and make a medium to heavy attempt. After looking at some photos, this is the result.

Four Stratford (SF) 47’s

Today I am going back to the late 80’s – early 90’s. During this time Stratford gathered a diverse collection of Class 47’s released from other duties. When I saw them they were mostly on Engineering trains, but they are likely to have been on a variety of trains. From what I can remember they always seem to have been very well looked after hence my models are only light to medium weathered. I have also picked locos that were not manufactured by the mainstream modelling industry, 47711 excepted.

All the Locos are first generation OO Heljan and have buffer beam details at one end and tension lock at the other. Again it is hoped they may run on ‘Osier Fen’ Layout, if not they will be sold.

Two Class 31’s in 1960’s

These two 31’s are the first two of my recently purchases Heljan Locos from the 2nd batch. I will not go through the problems encountered after delivery, but these two loco’s needed a lot of remedial work due to poor packaging in transit.

I consider both locos to be weathered in a light to medium level after researching colour photos.

Back to OO – Class 47’s weathered.

Here are two original Heljan Class 47’s that I detailed about ten years ago for a proposed new layout. This layout never happened and after detailing I just put them away. I am hoping that these will eventually run on my new OO layout Osier Fen, if not be sold.

In fact I detailed about twenty Locos at that time and I hope to work through them during lockdown and weather the lot! Watch this space!

Both Locos are light to medium weathering. They have one ends buffer beams super detailed and the other ends with tension locks left.
