This is an O gauge Darstead Model of Thompson Buffet. Coaches are always a bit different to weathering Locos. You have to break this task into three parts, The roof, the body and the underframe, mainly because the bodies are regularly washed and cleaned. On this model the roof and underframe are medium, the body is only a wash and wipe of the door area, so very low, more ‘shadowing’ then weathering.
I Purchased this Loco from a member of the O Gauge Guild at a very good price. The Loco was a bit tatty and the weathering left a bit to be desired, however it was a very good runner. I have now re-painted, renumbered, added further detail and re-weathered it. Below are the results.
I admit buying off Ebay etc. can be a bit of a gamble, but for me as long as the Loco is good runner and the kit is well constructed with no missing parts, then the actual paintwork is of less importance.
This is a recent Ebay purchase that has been completely refurbished. I have done a partial repaint, renumber, weather and added some extra detail.
This was one of the E4’s that moved North for a while, and during this time had a more enclosed cab fitted, instead of the more basic GE variety.
I was asked if I could salvage this Loco – it was made to a very good standard, but very poorly painted – it had not been undercoated and the topcoat was flaking quite badly! I did a complete repaint, re-number and weathering job, results below.
This is a partial repaint of a Dapol Green Loco. I had already weathered this Loco while in green, so it was a concentrated effort on the body only that was needed. After repainting and lettering, I then blended the body weathering with the already done chassis.
This is my freightliner 08 585 Vicky, weathered to a medium standard. Usual methods used, wash and wipe and then five weathering colours, Railmatch paint.
This is an 08 that has just had a change of identity, it was 08530 now 08585 Vicky. The nameplates were not available when I originally numbered this engine! Weathering to follow!
This is another recent O gauge purchase, it was, should I say, a bit rough. I have repainted after adding back all the pieces that had fallen off and given it a good service. I have renumbered to a welded tender example, will have a medium weathering later. This Loco was purchased at what I considered to be a good very price and I am now happy with its refurbishment.
This is my recently purchased E4 in O Gauge, I have serviced, repainted, renumbered and detailed the Loco, it will be lightly weathered later. The Loco now represents 62797 in the correct condition, with tender and cab types as running in the mid 50’s.
I have now named my O Gauge Industrial Terrier, it is now called ‘Sofia’ after my grand daughter. The engine was a recent purchase for £125 in a box shifter sale. After a little research I discovered there was a couple that made it into Industrial service although not the era I model, so a little modellers licence took over. Sofia’s brother Charlie already has an 08 named after him, so this balances things up.
The Plates were custom made, and from time of order to delivery was about eight weeks. The plates came from CNS, Custom Nameplate Studio, and I cannot recommend them enough – superb service.
