4000 yards at N & S N G Ex.

Our first Exhibition of 2020 was at the Norfolk & Suffolk Narrow Gauge Exhibition at Beccles. This turned out to be an excellent Exhibition with record attendance and a very high class of layouts.

Although I am not particularly a Narrow Gauge Fan – this Exhibition certainly got our group thinking and at our debrief at ‘Maccie D’s’ on the way home – there was a lot of enthusiasm to build another group narrow gauge layout.

We took our latest wagon to the Exhibition although not quite finished and weathered – the Hospital Wagon got some very good comments. Below are some excellent photos taken by Shaun. Group photo by my wife – thanks both.

Weathering – SENTINAL – Lime and Cargo wagons.

Its late February and this is what is probably the last weathering session of the month. Today is the best day for a while to spray and varnish so I took full advantage.

This Loco is for Shaun and is a light to medium weathering.

All subjects were researched before starting.

5 Dogfish and a Catfish in O Gauge.

Here we have six Ballast Hoppers, they have been medium weathered for Mike. I renumbered some, but I did have a lot of trouble getting the same colour transfers as the original Heljan lettering.

I used the wash and wipe method on the bodies – on the inside, I washed but did not wipe. The next step was airbrush the chassis with four different colours, special care was taken with the ballast shutes. I then went back to the inside and sprayed a mixture light rust colours – finally I dropped some O Gauge Ballast into the hopper and moved it around while the paint was still wet – after about 10 minutes I emptied the ballast out.

O Gauge Weathering (Feb 2020)

Yesterday I weathered three Loco’s – one for Colin and two for my Morlock Heath Layout.

Colin’s Dapol Sentinal

The Loco has been re-named and given a light – Medium Weathering as well as extra coal in the hopper. It is DCC Sound fitted by Coastal  DCC Ipswich. It is appearing a Milton Keynes Model Railway Exhibition this weekend.IMG_1130

Two Dapol 08 Shunters for Morlock Heath.

These 08’s have already appeared on this site before weathering. Now they have had a medium weathering in preparation for an appearance at March Model Railway Exhibition on March 14th.

A new member of our syndicate.

I would like to welcome Jaeson Pryer to our Model Syndicate. Jaeson  is primarily joining us as an operator as our Exhibition Diary gets too much for the four of us. Jaeson has been/is a member of several Model Railway Clubs and is experienced in most Railway and Modelling subjects including Exhibition Planning and Layout Operations. Jaeson does not have an Exhibition Layout at present and his main part of our very diverse hobby is LEGO trains and accessories. I will therefore be adding a ‘LEGO Railway Display’ to our  list of available layouts on our ‘Exhibition Layouts’ on this website.

Welcome to the ‘Norfolk Railway Modelling Syndicate’

Dapol Y1 Sentinal in O Gauge.

I purchased two of these Loco’s from a well known ‘Box Shifter’  – they were advertised as ‘Y3’ which is what I wanted. I wish I had done my research first before purchasing!! When they arrived I realised the mistake, they were Y1. I left one as No.39 as It was an East Anglian Loco, being based at both Lowestoft and Cambridge. and changed the second one to No.4 which was a Doncaster Loco, a bit out of my modelled area!

Both Loco’s had their buffer beams painted red as prototype. And both had real coal added to the hopper.

No.39 had a modified coal hopper side, so the model is not strictly correct.

The O Gauge Fox Transfers I used on No.4 are to large – I would suggest buying OO as they are nearer the correct size.

I hope to correct them at a later date.

Latest Dapol O8 in O Gauge

I purchased this Loco with a number already in place, however when it arrived and I started to do some research I found a better ‘local’ example. I removed the original number and added my selected one, 08834.

This loco had a slightly different handrail system than the original model, plus an extra one on the nose end. I modified them to what was required. I also added the ‘Speedlink’ flashes and cast BR Logo to the cab ends.

New Years Day Weathering

I have been weathering O Gauge Stock for a couple of mates today. All wagons were made by them, I have painted, transferred and weathered only.
